Deputy Cesar J. Romero is a 25-year veteran of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, and he has been with the STAR Unit since 2008. After custody assignments at Pitchess Detention Center North and Men’s Central Jail, Deputy Romero worked on patrol at East Los Angeles Station for ten years.

When an opportunity arose to work at the STAR Unit, it seemed to be the perfect fit. Cesar grew up in East Los Angeles and still remembers the police officer who visited his elementary school. Those visits gave him an opportunity to see law enforcement on a more personal level.

As a member of the STAR Unit, Deputy Romero has been able to return the positive feelings he experienced as a youth to a new generation of young people.  Deputy Romero feels extremely fortunate that he can share his experiences as a deputy sheriff in a venue that positively influences others.  He believes the STAR Unit promotes not only the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department but also helps foster a respectful relationship between law enforcement in general and the communities they serve.

DSC_0034Deputy Romero currently teaches at schools in the cities of Lakewood, Artesia and Hawaiian Gardens. During the summer, Cesar organizes the STAR Unit Golf Tournament (currently held at the Hacienda Golf Club) with his partner, Deputy Daniel Vargas.  The annual golf tournament is the primary fund raiser for the STAR Unit, and has raised over $450,000 in its 17-year history.

Cesar also serves as the President of the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Professional Association (LASPA).
